Symptoms of Osteoarthritis and How to Treat It

What Is Osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis is a medical condition that targets the joints in the human body. Since a joint is between the ends of two bones that are both covered with cartilage. This cartilage protects the bone and prevents it from wearing down and damaging. In this medical condition, the cartilage of your joints wears down leaving the joint unprotected. The joints now rub against each other causing a lot of pain and rigidity.

Osteoarthritis is a very common problem and should be treated as soon as possible so that the joints are protected before it gets too late. To nip the disease in the bud you must realize that you are experiencing symptoms and you should do something to control it. So what are symptoms should you look for?

What Are The Symptoms Of Osteoarthritis?

If the arthritis is in its early stages you might feel symptoms like:

You can find redness or swelling in the joints of your hands, fingers, hips, knees, and even your spine. There is a lot of pain later on when the disease progresses but you might also experience pain in the start of the disease. If you do not have pain right away you might still face tenderness in your joints. The inflammation and pain limit your mobility and you get a lot of stiffness in your joints. However, if your disease has progressed you might face extreme symptoms such as:

#1 | Extreme Inflammation

If the disease has progressed terribly you might face extreme inflammation. The synovial fluid increases in great amounts causing more swelling in between the joints. Since the cartilage is also broken, the particles might float around in the fluid causing you to get increased inflammation in your joints.

#2 | Unbearable Pain

The pain gets intense and you might have very limited mobility. The pain gets difficult to bear and might cause a dent in the rest of the day.

#3 | Deformation

Deformity of joints is seen as a common symptom in people with progressive osteoarthritis. If you feel that your joints are getting deformed with each passing day it is best that you reach out to a doctor.

How Should You Treat Osteoarthritis?

Now that you know that you have osteoarthritis, you need to get it treated. Osteoarthritis has no cure but the treatment usually depends on managing the symptoms.

Exercising is a great way to improve your mobility. If you want your body to stay as mobile as possible you must keep with exercise. Exercise will also help you lose weight to decrease the added pressure on your joints.

If worse comes to worst and your joints are damaged beyond repair, you might have to get a joint replacement surgery. For instance, you might need to get a partial knee replacement surgery if your knee has been weakened because of osteoarthritis. An experienced doctor like Dr. Hill is a popular name and has helped several people get back to normal life after successful partial knee replacement surgeries.
